Although the story is a bit old at this point, 
TidBITS has a nice writeup about how Microsoft is... (how to put it politely?) completely betraying their customers with their cancellation of their "Plays For Sure" DRM music system (great name, the humor is incredible, especially since 
they were sincere about the name -- but probably it was just marketing, and who trusts that?). The TidBITS article also points to
